Andrew and LaVon Weidenborner
Andrew and LaVon purchased their 426-acre farm in 1994. They started with a herd of 30 Angus cows. The farm and herd have since grown. The couple now rents an additional 200 acres and the herd has increased to 100 cows and young stock. The Weidenborners have raised a variety of crops over the years including grains, beans and hay. They use a rotational grazing system for their livestock. In addition to his farming work, Andrew also drives a semi hauling wood from the forests of northern Minnesota. LaVon stays busy in the family’s greenhouse.
Andrew and LaVon have five grown children: Trista, Cyril, Teresa, Tiana and Tonya. Tonya and her husband, Grady, have four kids: Luke, Kyle, Jace and Nate.
Andrew and LaVon’s greenhouse is open seasonally and they sell produce from it and at a local farmers market. They donate young vegetable plants to the local school for students to plant and grow over the summer in the school gardens. Students harvest produce in the fall and share it at their school and with the local food shelf.
