Kevin started milking cows in partnership with his aunt and uncle, Viola and Irving, in 1977. Kevin and Sue were married a year later. Their daughter, Sara, was born in 1980 and their son, Trent, was born in 1983. Kevin and Sue purchased the farm from his aunt and uncle and continued milking cows along with a little cash cropping. They sold the cows in 2003 and raised Holstein steers and grew corn, soybeans and hay.
Currently, the Nickelsons farm 275 acres of corn, soybeans, hay and oats. They no longer have livestock on the farm. In addition to their crops, the family operates a golf range on their land.
Kevin was a supervisor on the New Scandia Township Board for 11 years. He also served on the New Scandia Township Planning Commission for five years.
