Morken Farms LLC

Houston County

Morken Farms LLC was formed in 2008, but the family has been farming in the Spring Grove area of Houston County for over 160 years. One parcel of the land has been farmed by the family since it was homesteaded in 1853. The farm has continually grown, expanding rapidly in the 1950s when Don, Bob and Dave Morken’s parents, Allan and Lois, took over.

The farm consists of about 3,000 acres of owned and rented land. The family calves about 325 beef cows and sells some breeding stock. They also buy feeders and sell fat cattle just about every week. The Morkens feed cattle in 10 lots on four different farms and market about 1 million pounds of beef annually. The family recently added a new venture, custom-raising turkeys to produce 3 million pounds of turkey each year.

Two generations of Morkens form the LLC. The older generation is made up of Don and his wife, Jane, along with Bob and his wife, Deb, and Dave and his wife, Lori. There are also three couples of the younger generation: Nate and Jess, Tim and Kelsey, and Sam and Angie.

The Morken families are involved in many local organizations including 4-H and FFA, Faith Lutheran Church, their local cattlemen’s association, Lions Club and the local boards of the American Dairy Association and the Dairy Herd Improvement Association.

The family is well known locally for donating “Morken Beef” to a wide variety of charity auctions and benefits.
