Irvin and Lorie Stolp

Chisago County

Irv and Lorie rejoined the family farm near Sunrise in eastern Minnesota’s Chisago County in 1978 and took over the operation 10 years later. The original farm was 280 acres and over time increased to more than 1,000 acres. Most of the land was in a crop rotation of corn, soybeans, oats and hay. A 70 cow/calf pair herd was kept to improve the pastures.

Over the years, the Stolps have changed from full tillage to mostly no-till planting. With help from NRCS and state programs they’ve included cover crops in their cropping mix. The Stolps have enjoyed the learning process involved in improving conservation efforts on their farm.

Irv has served with the Army and has been part of the Taylors Falls Fire Department for 30 years. He’s served with the local planning commission for 10 years and has devoted time to the church board at First Lutheran Church. Lorie has maintained the family’s home and a business. She has served on the local library board.

Irv gives endless thanks for his family, friends, local businesses and government agencies who helped make their farm a success.
