Enchanted Meadows dairy farm has been in the Thicke family since 1928. The farm has grown to 524 acres. Art and Jean Thicke were joined in the operation by Chad and Melissa Crowley in 2003. The farm was certified organic a year later.
Enchanted Meadows is a grass-based farm; the families use managed grazing practices. 95 head of Ayrshire cattle are milked on the farm. The Thickes and Crowleys sell their organic milk to Westby Co-op Creamery.
The families work in cooperation with nature by providing nesting habitat for birds and other wildlife along with 60 beehives for pollinators. Both families are involved with the Land Stewardship Project and have given presentations on grazing and transitioning a farm to the next generation. The families have installed solar systems that provide all the electrical needs for the operation.
Chad and Melissa have three children who help out around the farm: Dylan, Jessica and Erin.
Art is currently a board member of Westby Co-op. Chad is a former fire and first responder for the community of Nodine in Winona County. Chad and Melissa are involved with the La Crescent Montessori and STEM School, which the Crowley children attend.
