The original Wolle farm was bought from the railroad in 1883 and is now being farmed by Matt Wolle, the sixth generation of the family. The Wolles raise corn and soybeans on 1,650 acres. The family also has 200 acres in the Conservation Reserve Program. Matt does custom work on about 1,000 acres and owns a seed business as well. The Wolle farm has been certified by the Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program.
Two generations of the Wolle family are involved in the farm. Harold Jr. and his wife, Jane, are landowners and assist with some of the farm’s labor needs and decision-making. Matt and his wife, Holly, are landowners and the farm’s operators.
Harold Jr. is president of the Minnesota Corn Growers Association and president of the St. James Lions Club. He also serves as president of First Lutheran Church in St. James. Matt serves on the Minnesota Agricultural Education Leadership Council, is a director for Watonwan County Farm Bureau and serves as a director with Watonwan County Corn and Soybean Growers Association.
