Steve and Elaine Trnka
The Trnkas purchased their farm in 1978 with the help of Steve’s parents. They ran a farrow-to-finish hog operation and raised crops. Steve and Elaine partnered with Steve’s parents until his parents sold their share of the hogs and eventually rented the land to Steve and Elaine.
Currently the farm is mostly in row crop production. The Trnkas phased out the hogs in 2008, although they still raise a few for 4-H shows and direct market.
The Trnkas have three sons, Eric, Jeff and Greg, all of whom help on the farm when jobs and time allow.
Steve serves as a director of his community co-op. He’s been named Minnesota Farm Bureau Conservationist of the Year. Steve has given time to his church board, the 4-H Swine Project Development Committee, the county pork producers board, his township board and the South Central Technical College Ag Advisory Board.
