Steve and Jennie Svendsen
Steve started farming in 1973 east of Oklee in northwest Minnesota. Steve and Jennie met a year later and have been married for 42 years. The Svendsens operated a grain and dairy farm for 27 of those years. Fifteen years ago, they sold the dairy cows and today concentrate on grain production. The Svendsens raise 1,300 acres of grains.
The Svendsens have four children: David and his five children live near Oklee; their daughter, Jamie, and her husband, Allen, have three children and live near New Prague; Brian also lives near Oklee; and Brad and his wife, Natalie, along with their two children, live in East Grand Forks.
David and Brad farm another 1,100 acres. The parents and sons help each other during the busy harvest season but keep their operations separate.
Jennie and Steve are members of First Baptist Church in Clearbrook. Jennie is a member of the Trail Community Club and Eden Extension Home Study Group. She attended Oak Hills College.
Steve, who earned a degree in agricultural economics from the University of Minnesota, enjoys deer hunting and spending time in the woods, wood cutting, model railroads, gardening and spending time with the Svendsens’ grandchildren.
