The Pohlman farm dates back to 1884, when Barb Pohlman’s late husband, Paul’s great-grandparents settled the land in Jackson County. Barb and Paul’s son, Ryan, is now the fifth generation of the Pohlman family to operate the farm.
Barb and Paul have three children: Amy, Ryan and Julie. Ryan is taking over the farm but Barb remains active, including handling all the combining in the fall. The Pohlman farm raises corn and soybeans.
Barb continues to support the local school district after teaching for 35 years. She’s been retired from the profession for six years. A large garden now occupies a lot of Barb’s time providing fresh produce to four area counties. Barb also supports teaching young people about growing food and food preservation. Barb and Paul made three trips to South Africa, where Barb was able to use her knowledge of gardening and food production.
