Melson Family Farm
The twin Melson brothers are the fifth generation of the family to farm the land that was first settled by their Swedish ancestors more than 140 years ago. Tracy and his wife, Beth, have six children: Jacob, Aline, Stephen, Kristian, Seth and Emelia. Troy and his wife, Liza, have two children: Robert and Brekken. All of the Melson children have been active on the farm wherever and whenever they are needed.
The Melson brothers are contract growers for New Fashion Pork raising over 35,000 pigs a year in 16 barns. They also grow 3,000 acres of corn and soybeans. The Melsons were honored as the 2015 Minnesota Pork Board’s Family of the Year.
Troy and Tracy have been active in 4-H and FFA over the years. They are passionate about teaching the next generations about animals and how to care for them. One year the Melson families had a combined 86 animals at the Martin County Fair.
Tracy serves on the Martin County West School Board and Troy is on the board of Evangelical Covenant Church in Trimont.
The Melsons say they are doing their best to carry on the farm for their children and grandchildren.
