Kalpin Family Farm
The Kalpin farm near Miltona in Douglas County was homesteaded by Don’s great grandparents. Don and Karla took over the operation three years ago when Don’s father passed away.
The Kalpins have a herd of 29 dairy cows and raise replacement heifers. The family also grows about 600 acres of corn, soybeans, small grains and alfalfa.
The Kalpins have two sons. Mitchell recently graduated from Parkers Prairie High School and Michael graduated from North Dakota State University. Both boys have contributed to the farming operation over the years and participated in 4-H. Karla works off the farm but helps out as often as she can.
Don has been a volunteer fireman for more than three decades and both he and Karla were 4-H leaders when the boys were involved.
Don says everyone in the agriculture industry deserves the Farm Family of the Year award.
