The Hanson farm began when Randy and Brian Hanson’s father and grandfather moved to the Nerstand area of Rice County in 1945. The farm changed hands within the family over the years and included crop farming, dairy and hogs. Today Hanson Farms raises corn and soybeans.
Randy and his wife Lori along with their son, Jeremy, work full-time running the farm as do Brian and his wife Colleen and two sons, Matt and Nick, who work part-time on the farm and also run their own finishing pig operation.
The Hansons work with the Rice and Goodhue Soil and Water Conservation Districts to maintain buffer strips along open water on the farm and have installed many sediment control basins to help control erosion.
The Hansons are involved with the Rice County Farm Bureau Federation as well as the Minnesota Corn Growers, Soybean Growers and Pork Producers. Randy has been president of the Rice County Farm Bureau for the past 18 years.
