DeKam Dairy Farms

Pipestone County
2015

After Wes and Sheila were married in the 1980’s they were herdsmen for a neighbor. Seven years later they started their own dairy farm with 120 cows and 240 acres of corn and alfalfa. Today the DeKam family milks 450 cows and has expanded their corn and alfalfa acreage. They’ve also added small grains and cover crops.

The DeKam’s farming operation includes two of their children and their families: Eldest daughter Heather and her husband Rod along with their kids Logan, Tyson, Carter and Parker. And youngest daughter Courtney and her husband Grant have three children: Carson and Cooper.

The DeKam’s middle daughter Ashley and her husband Nathan farm on their own and have two children: Sawyer and Kaelyn.

The DeKam’s are involved in their local church and local Christian school societies as well as the Pipestone County Dairy Association and Pipestone County DHIA.

The DeKam’s were also chosen as the Pipestone County Soil and Water Conservation Farm Family of the year last year.
