Houdek Family Farm
The Houdek farming operation began in 1992 with the purchase of 49 cows and machinery and a rented farm near Caledonia. Seven years later the Houdeks purchased their existing home site and 60 acres. Today Wayne and Kris own 1100 acres and rent 100 more.
The Houdeks milk about 450 cows in a double-12 parallel parlor three times a day. They also raise about 400 heifers. A couple of years ago the Houdeks purchased 40 registered Red Angus beef cows. The farm produces all its own livestock feed.
Wayne and Kris are full-time farm operators and have four sons: Jacob, Eric, Andy and Aaron. Jacob and his wife, Jenna, have a daughter, Amelia.
The Houdek family has been involved in 4-H and FFA. The family hosted an area Breakfast on the Farm in 2006. The Houdeks are also involved with the American Dairy Association and the Dairy Herd Improvement Association.
Kris is involved in the handbell choir at their church and also sings in the women’s choir.
