Jones Family Farm

Crow Wing County

Bob and Arlene purchased their 80 acre parcel of land in 2006 and named it “The Farm on St. Mathias”. The land was originally deeded from the railroad in 1905 for $400. Previously their farm was a dairy operation with a corn-soybean rotation.

Now “The Farm on St. Mathias” is a destination farm–also known as an “agritainment” operation. The farm produces vegetables–both in the field and in a high tunnel–and raises hops. The farm also is a tourist attraction with a corn maze and hayrides in the fall   It also hosts weddings, fundraisers and musical events.

The Jones’ appreciate the dedication, help and support they receive from their family—both on and off the farm. Their son, Justin Gangl, Arlene’s parents Randy and Jeri Baird and Arlene’s sister Maureen Baird.

Bob and Arlene are both active Master Gardeners in Crow Wing County. They’ve worked together to develop the local foods value chain and founded SPROUT Minnesota, a local foods hub involving over 50 small family farms in their area.
