Bruce Bacon Garden Farm
In 1970 Bruce Bacon moved to his great grandparent’s farm that was first established in 1913. Bruce retired from the city of Ramsey in 2007 after nearly 30 years as a tree inspector, fire warden and environmental specialist.
The farm has been certified organic since 1977 and production includes culinary herbs and specialty leaf greens used by more than 10 area restaurants and caterers. The Bacon Garden Farme also produces nuts, mushrooms, fruits and potted trees. The farm includes 25 acres of restored prairie planting and honey bees.
The Bacon Garden Farme is a host site for many special events including permaculture demonstrations and workshops, agro‐ecology research projects, seminars, retreats and private functions.
The farm is a member of the Sustainable Farming Association of Minnesota and Bruce offers internships on his farm with the University of Minnesota Institute of Sustainable Agriculture.
Bruce credits many others with helping the farm thrive including Don and Rolla Crandall, Sally Crandall Turnipseed and Barbara Bacon.
