In the 1920s Verlinde Farms began when Jerry and Marie Verlinde started farming in Shetek Township. The farm stayed in the family with Firmin and Alice farming it from the 1940s to the late 1980s, and Dick and Lynn taking over in 1975. Today Dick and his son Ryan manage the Verlinde family farm near Tracy, MN. They grow corn, soybeans, oats, and various cover crops. They also have feeder cattle that are fed out at outside custom feedlots. Dick and Ryan maintain a large beef cow herd that raises show cattle by means of invitro fertilization and embryo transfer for numerous customers throughout the United States. Ryan and his wife Marla have three children; Lauren (11), Lawton (6), and Nolan (5). All three children enjoy helping where they can, like by picking rock and bottle-feeding newborn calves. Dick and Ryan have two employees; Bryan Marthaler and Mike Gingrande.
In the community, Dick is a board member of CHS Marshall Region. Lynn is a Hospice Volunteer, Relay for Life Volunteer, and St. Mary’s Guild member. Ryan is president of the Murray County Cattleman’s Association. Marla is on the St. Mary’s School Board. She is also a volunteer soccer coach. Ryan and Marla’s children are actively involved in the Currie Poco Poco 4-H Club.
