Charles & Lorie Hoffman

Yellow Medicine County
2013

The Hoffman Farm in Porter, MN is a 4th generation cow/calf, cattle feeding, and crop farm.  This year the farm became a century farm.  Mathias and Stella Hoffman settled the farm in 1913.  It was then passed down to Mathias’s son and his wife, Leonard and Pauline Hoffman and then to Charles and Lorie Hoffman.  Charles, Lorie, and their son Matt currently farm the land.  Today the farm has 1500 acres of cropland and 300 acres of pasture.  It has 180 head of Simmentals under the herd name Rockin H Simmentals.  Charles and Lorie have two children, Matt and Christopher. Son Matt and his wife Holly are the cow/calf managers of Rockin H Simmentals.  They have two children, Taten and Maxten.  Son Christopher helps with the day-to-day farming operation.  He is also employed at Canby Farmers Grain in Canby.

Away from the farm, Chuck is involved with Midwest Cattlemen’s Association, American Simmental Association, and Yellow Medicine County Zoning.  He is also a Porter Fireman and First Responder for the Porter Fire and Rescue Department.  Lorie is an employee of the Canby Public School system working in the district office for the past 17 years.  Both Chuck and Lorie are active as volunteers with the 4-H program and in the St. Leo Catholic Church in St. Leo MN.
