Mike and Jennifer Rupprecht
Earth-Be-Glad Farm is located in the bluff country of southeastern Minnesota at the head of the “Rupprecht’s Valley,” which was settled by Mike’s great-great grandfather Wilhelm Rupprecht in 1860. Mike and Jennifer raise livestock, corn, hay, small grains, and soybeans on 275 certified organic acres. They raise and sell 100% grass-fed beef and free range organic chicken and eggs. Hallmarks of their system include management intensive rotational grazing, soil regeneration, zero pesticide use, increasing biodiversity, erosion prevention, reduced fossil fuel use, holistic planning, and respect for ecosystem processes. Mike and Jennifer have one daughter Johanna who is a policy organizer with the Land Stewardship Project.
The Rupprechts have been active in the local food movement and with organizations including the Sustainable Farming Association, Land Stewardship Project, Bluff Country Co-op, and the Winona Farmers Market. They have hosted tours for a wide variety of ages and interests for over 25 years. In 2010 Earth-Be-Glad Farm received an Engaged Partnership Award from Winona State University for its involvement in WSU’s year-long focus on sustainable agriculture and foods.
