Brian and Michelle Hicks
The Hicks Family farm in Tracy, MN was established in 1885 beside the Cottonwood River in Gales Township. Brian and Michelle are the fourth generation to farm it. The Hicks grow corn, soybeans, and native prairie grass hay and kids. On the farm, Brian is the owner and main operator. Michelle helps with the farm and home schools their children. Brian and Michelle have 10 children. Meridith (21) a bible college graduate, helps with harvest, haying, and driving semi. Brad (20) is in the National Guard and does haying, harvesting, and hauling corn, Tuesday he leaves for basic training in Georgia. Jake (16) helps with the technology, harvest, tillage, and haying. Mariah (14), Madelynne (13), and Mercedies (10) help with picking rock, gardening, making meals, mowing riding horses and 4-wheelers. Adam (8) is the miniature farmer of the family. Children Mallorie the gymnast (6), David the hugger (3), and Stephen the smiler (8 months) keep the family entertained and laughing.
Some of the organizations the Hicks belong to include Minnesota Redwood County Farm Bureau, Minnesota and Redwood County Corn and Soybean Growers, Calvary Chapel Marshall, 4-H, FFA, American Rabbit Breeders Association, Southwest Research and Outreach Center Advisory Committee, and Meadowland Farmers Cooperative Board. Meridith is the 4-H Summer Intern for Lyon County and Brian is also the Drainage Water Management spokesperson for Ag Drainage Management Coalition.
