Page & Flowers
Even though Tim and Cherry come from farm family backgrounds, neither had practiced farming as a profession before starting Page & Flowers/ Holistic Health Farms. Their operation developed out of working with and teaching inner-city youth how to grow and market fresh produce. Today Page & Flowers have land next to their home in the Hamline Midway neighborhood in St. Paul, on an urban farm in North End in St. Paul, and on certified organic land in North Branch, MN. They produce vegetables with a focus on culturally important foods, herbs, and unusual vegetables. To maximize land usage Page & Flowers uses methods such as succession planting, intercropping, companion planting, crop rotation, permaculture, wide rows/narrow walking paths, vertical growing, a hoop house, water conservation practices, and renewable energy sources. Tim, Cherry, and Page sell locally at Mill City Farmers Market, Linden Hills Farmers Market, a corporate market, through a CSA, and to area restaurants.
Tim and Cherry participate in conferences such as Sustainable Agriculture Conference, MOSES, Black Farmers, Immigrant and Minority Farmers Conference, and the High Tunnel Conference. They also use their farm for an urban demonstration center, training center, and tour site. In addition, Tim is involved with Environmental Justice Advocates of Minnesota, the Hubs System, and AfroEco. Cherry has worked with Urban Farming. Both Tim and Cherry have been involved with the Emerge Garden Club.
