Benike Farms in Birchdale, MN was originally started by Milton and Carol Benike in 1977 after they moved from their SE Minnesota Farm near Elgin. In 1993, sons Brent, Ross, and Kent incorporated to form Benike Farms Inc. Over the years the farm has produced a variety of crops including wheat, soybean, corn, oats, sunflower, flax, alfalfa, ryegrass, and u-pick sweet corn. A commercial white Emden goose operation was also in place from the early 1980’s to the early 1990’s producing between 5,000 and 8,000 geese annually. Today Benike Farms, Inc. consists of 700 acres of diversified crops including wheat, perennial ryegrass, soybean, canola, and u-pick sweet corn. Brent, Ross, and Kent, past attendees of U of M-Crookston, are equal shareholders and operators in the family farm corporation.
The farm is a member of the Minnesota Crop Improvement Association and MN Soybean Growers Association. Brent is a General Manager of Northern Farmers Co-op and Northern Excellence Seed based in William, MN. He is also a board director on the MN Turf Council and MN Crop Improvement Association. Ross is involved with the Little Brother/ Little Sister program with the Northwest Community Action and is also a volunteer of the Young Eagles Program. In addition, he has served as a board member of the River Valley Development Association-Birchdale, MN. Kent volunteers with Youth Hockey coaching in International Falls, MN.
