Terry and Carol Schaefer
In 1946, Al and Rose Schaefer purchased the Schaefer family farm near Paynesville. They farmed until 1985 when Terry began renting the farm. Terry rented the farm until he purchased it in 1990. Al continued to help Terry on the farm until his death in 2007. Terry and Carol were married in 1996 and have worked together on the farm ever since. Today the Schaefers have a 30 cow dairy operation, some steers, and some chickens. They also have 290 acres of cropland and pasture. On the farm, Terry is the owner and operator of all the farm functions. Carol assists with planting, harvesting, and haying. She also does the office work and works out of the home full time at the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office. Terry and Carol have 6 children. Tanner is in 10th grade and is the only child left at home. Tanner helps his parents out with chores and general farm work. Children Laura Mackedanz (husband Jake), Randi, Alex, Corey, and Chris all live away from the farm but come home to help as needed.
In the community, Terry is a supervisor with Kandiyohi County Soil and Water District, Treasurer for Roseville Township, and is involved with the Paynesville FFA Alumni. Tanner is a member and 2nd year officer of his local FFA Chapter. Both Terry and Carol are active members of the St. Louis Catholic Church. Carol is a religion teacher and both Terry and Carol serve as extra-ordinary ministers.
