Larry and Mary Kay Lund
The Lund farm was bought in the 1950s from Larry’s grandfather Willy. In 1965, Larry’s parents, Eldred and Marlene, moved a house onto the property and built a dairy barn. There they raised Larry and his five sisters. Larry and Mary Kay were married in 1986. In 1992, they bought the farm from Larry’s parents, and have lived on the farm ever since. On the farm they raised five children, Maria, William, Michael, Nathan, and Michelle. Today, Larry, Mary Kay, and their son William milk 42 cows, feed out steers, and farm about 700 acres. Mary Kay also raises 1,000 butcher chickens and 75 laying hens every year and sells some locally and some at the farmers market. Larry has 120 ewes that he lambs and he feeds out for market. Daughter Maria, husband Darrin, and their son Dylan live in Kensington. Son Michael is a senior at the U of M Crookston. Nathan is a graduate of Brandon High School and is working on a farm in North Dakota. Michelle will be a freshman at Brandon High School. All four children help on the farm when time allows.
In the community, Larry is a Director of Gardonville Telephone Company, council member at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, and past board member of the Douglas County American Dairy Association.
