Jon and Ann Finifrock
The Finifrock farm in Barnum, MN has been in the family for over 80 years. For many years the farm was a turkey or chicken operation. Today the Finifrocks calve 25 beef cows and lamb 70 ewes, which are purebred Suffolk or predominately Suffolk. Besides the livestock, the Finifrocks have 100 acres of owned land and 150 of leased land for hay production and pasture. On the farm, Jon is the main operator; however, his wife Ann gives tremendous support and arranges farm labor as needed. 12 year old son Nathan is a crucial component of the farm. Since Jon’s disablement 10 years ago, Nathan has stepped up and has handled a larger than expected portion of the farm work. Nathan hopes to continue the farm some day. Despite 10 year old Nicholas’ physical challenges, he remains very involved with the ownership and showing of the livestock. Jon’s parents Willis and Kay are also a valued part of the farm and are still very involved.
In the community, Jon has served on the church board and the Carlton County Extension Committee. He has shown sheep at the Carlton County Fair for over 40 years and has been barn superintendent for 20. He has also been involved in 4-H for the last 43 years, 32 of those years as a project leader in beef and sheep leader.
