Arne E. Stoen Family
Arne Stoen is a 4th generation farmer who began farming on his grandfather’s homestead in 1956. When he first began, his operation had grain, hay, dairy, feeder cattle, and hogs. Along the way he added Suffolk sheep. In 1983, Arne sold the tillable land and dairy herd. Today Arne and his wife Carol raise Suffolk sheep. Arne and Carol raised six children on the farm; Brenda, Kathy, Karen, Becky, Joanne, and Jeffrey. All of the kids were actively involved in the farming operation in various ways; milking cows, chores, rock picking, haying, or driving tractor.
In the community, Arne has served on the Pope County Board of Commissioners, State Transportation and Agricultural Committee, Pope County Fair Board, West Central Communities Action, and West Central MN Sheep Producers. He was also instrumental in organizing the five county Public Transit System, the “Rainbow Rider.” Arne currently serves on the Minnewaska Retirement Home. Carol, now retired, was employed as a Nursing Assistant at Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, MN and the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria. The Stoen children were active 4th generation 4-H members who enjoyed taking Suffolk sheep to the Pope County Fair and Minnesota State Fair. Arne still continues to provide lambs for 4-H projects across West Central, MN.
