Gary and Dorothy Janssen
Gary Janssen grew up on the family farm and decided he wanted to farm with his dad Marvin and his brother David in 1976. In 1981, Gary married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy and the two continued the tradition of farming while raising three children; Nicholas, Nathan, and Alexis. Today Gary and Dorothy raise corn and soybeans. Nick is working on joining the farm on a full-time basis while Nate works in Fairmont, but still rents land with Nick and helps with field work. Daily, Gary leads by example while Nick, Nick’s wife Rachel, and Nate are finding their places on the farm. Gary and Dorothy’s daughter Alexis is away at college, but helps when available.
Away from the farm, Gary has served on the Martin County West School Board. He also served on the Corn Plus Ethanol Board, MN Growers Association, MN Soybean Association, and the Sherburn Lion’s Club. Dorothy has been active with the Red Cross Bloodmobile. Gary and Dorothy have both been involved with the St. John’s Lutheran Church and Martin County 4-H. The Janssen children were involved with 4-H and FFA; where Nate was selected as the MN State FFA President for 2007-2008.
