Duane and Suzi Haugen
Duane and Suzi were married in 1976 and purchased a farm place in Freeland Township shortly after. They purchased land ½ mile down the road from land that Duane had purchased in 1972. They had 240 acres and raised hogs. Today the Haugens raise corn, soybeans, alfalfa, and some wheat. They also have 50 head of cattle with a feed lot capacity of 100. Duane and Suzi have three sons. Son Nate lives in the Omaha area and helps with planting and harvest whenever he can. Son Tim, his wife Stephanie, and their son Josh live at Ortonville and help whenever needed. Son Peter lives at the farm and has 50% share of the operation.
Besides the farm, Duane and Suzi own and operate Haugen Insurance Agency Inc. and specialize in crop insurance. All three of their children grew up in 4-H. The Haugens are also very active at Dawson Covenant Church. Duane has also been active with the town board, local elevator, Corn and Soybeans Associations, Midwest Cattleman’s, FFA Alumni, Gideons, and Lac qui Parle Extension Board. Suzi has sung in musical groups, been active as a 4-H volunteer, and the Lac qui Parle Hope Network Inc.
