Justin and Donna Dagen
The Dagens are 4th generation potato farmers. Justin farms the same land as his great-great grandfather did when he came to Kittson County in 1882 from southern Minnesota. Justin took over the farm in 1977 when there were 800 acres of potatoes and small grains. Today the Dagens farm 2000 acres of foundation seed potatoes, sugar beets, corn, edible beans, wheat, barley, and soybeans. Justin installed tile drainage in 2009 and his first center pivot irrigation in 2012. The Dagen family includes son Brooks, who recently graduated from NDSU with a degree in mechanical engineering; daughter Kendra who is attending North Central University where she is majoring in Youth Development and Counseling, and son Sander and daughter Jerica who attend Heritage Christian School.
Justin and Donna are active in their church and potato grower associations. In 2011, Justin was elected to lead the National Potato Council as their president. As an active potato grower in the Red River Valley, Justin has actively involved in Northern Plains Potato Grower Association. In 2012, Justin was named Potato Man of the Year at the National Potato Expo in Orlando, FL. When the Dagens have a break from farming, they enjoy participating in triathlons, long distance running, hunting, fishing, and gardening.
