David and Donna Whitney & Jacob Whitney
Dave Whitney and his family moved to the Stanchfield Farm in 1987. Prior to farming, Dave and Donna worked in the Twin Cities. Since moving, Dave has been a berry and vegetable grower for twelve years. He began full time farming in 1999. His operation is a father/son operation with son Jacob who graduated in 2003. Dave’s passion is growing the berry crops for pick your own on the farm sales. Strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries can all be found on the farm. Jacob’s passion is growing 1200 apple trees of various varities. He mainly grows U of M developed varities. Sweetango, Honeycrisp, Snowsweet, Zestar, Harlson, Frostbite, and Honeygold can all be found under the advisement of Jacob. David and Jacob also grow fall produce of sweet corn, squash, pumpkins, potatoes, and onions. They also have field corn and hay for their cow/calf herd on 140 acres. David and Donna also have a daughter Amy.
The Whitney farm enjoys a membership in the Apple Growers Association as well as the Berry Growers Associations. The farm is also a member of Farm Bureau. In addition, Donna does a great deal of volunteering for Siloa Lutheran Church.
