The Maas farm in Walnut Grove was purchased in 1924 by Bruce’s grandparents, Walter and Ida Anderson.  Later in 1951, Bruce’s parents, Arthur and Alice bought the farm.  Finally, in 1983, Maydra and Bruce took over.  The farm has always been diversified with both crops and livestock with an emphasis on dairy.  Today it consists of 900 acres of corn, soybeans, and alfalfa.  150 dairy cows are also raised on the farm.  Son Jared helps with both farming and the dairy operation with full responsibility for the baby calves, as well as occasional milking and feeding.  He also owns and operates Maas Construction.  Jared is married to Kari who is a registered nurse at the Mayo Health Systems of Springfield.  Jared and Kari have 3 children; Mariah (10), Marshall (8), and Juliana (1).  Bruce and Maydra have one daughter Jonna who is a medical student at U of M Duluth.

In the community, Bruce is involved with Associated Milk Producers, Redwood County American Dairy Association, Loggen Club, and Milroy Cooperative Elevator Board.  Since 1989, Maydra has been employed as a clinical nurse specialist/ registered nurse at the Redwood Area Hospital in the areas of Hospice, Homecare, and Education. Maydra is also involved with Redwood County American Dairy Association, Westbrook-Walnut Grove School Board, Westbrook-Walnut Grove Community Education, and Redwood County Extension.
