Ben and Linda Lind
In 1985, Ben and Linda Lind of Houston purchased their farm and nursery operation from Ben’s parents, Alvie and Judith Lind. Since the change in ownership, Ben and Linda have built six greenhouses, moved a log cabin onto the property for a gift shop, and have added three tree nurseries. For the nursery’s 60thanniversary, they had Scandinavian-style porches built on the fronts of the greenhouses. To extend their season, the Lind family sells Christmas trees; and makes Christams wreaths, roping, and arrangements. They also import and sell kicksleds from Norway and kickcycles from Finland. Ben and Linda work full-time as owners and operators of Alpine Nursery. They have two daughters; Jennifer and Kristine, who live nearby and also actively participate in the business. Ben’s mom Judith was involved in the nursery until her death at age 100.
In the community, Ben and Linda are members of the Houston Chamber of Commerce, the Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association, and the Houston County Farm Bureau. They also teach community education classes and are speakers for various organizations, as well as being active members in their church. Linda is also a county Master Gardener.
