Carl and Dennis Reuter
Bill and Ethel Reuter moved onto their farm, southeast of Hastings, in 1948. In 1951, when Bill’s mother died, Bill and Ethel took over the farm. They had eight children and raised chickens, pigs, and cows. In 1987, sons Carl and Dennis began their farm partnership. Their father helped with the chores until his death in 2007, but the farm expanded under their leadership. Today, Dennis and Carl farm 100 acres of alfalfa, 300 acres of corn, and 350 acres of soybeans. They also milk 120 cows. In 2000, the brothers built a large hoop building to house and better manage their cow herd.
Dennis has two sons: Philip (16) and Jacob (14). Both sons are 4-Hers and are proud to show dairy at the Dakota County Fair each year. Carl and Sharon have one daughter, Tanya, who lives in Hastings and is married. Carl and Dennis’s mother, Ethel, is still an important member of the family farming operation. They lovingly refer to her as their “receptionist.”
