Duane and Cindy Herber
The Herber Family farm in Rollingstone, MN is not only a fourth generation family farm, but also a Minnesota Century Farm. In 1931 it was established with the registered prefix Shadycrest. Today the milking herd consists of 145 Holsteins. The family continues to strive for a low somatic cell rate, which is currently at 56. Over the years, the Herber’s have put focus on their dairy herd’s genetics, comfort, and quality milk products. In addition to the dairy, Duane and Cindy run 250 acres with the help of two full time and two parttime employees. Good husbandry and conservation are also priorities of the farm. In fact, there are 200 forested acres managed for timber and wildlife. The farm also has five ponds for water control and wildlife; four of which have been rebuilt in the last three years. Minimum till and contour strips with grass waterways are also used.
In the community, the Herber’s are involved with the Holy Trinity Church in Rollingstone, the Mount Vernon Township board, the Economic Development Association for Winona County, and Renewable Energy. They have also been proud supporters and proud volunteers for Winona County 4-H.
