Dennis and Nancy Benson
Dennis and Nancy bought their farm from Nancy’s parents in 1972. At that time it was set up as a dairy operation on 418 acres. Today the Benson’s own and operate a 630 acre Black Angus Beef farm in Verndale, MN. All crops are for the end product of producing feeder cattle. The herd is split into two calving cycles, both spring and fall. They also have a rotational grazing system consisting of 480 acres where fresh water is pumped to all paddocks. The Benson’s have two children and four grandchildren. Both children live off the farm and have off the farm jobs, but produce beef cattle on their own farms and come to help their parents on occasion.
Dennis is a veteran and belongs to the VFW. Nancy is involved with the Farm Service Agency, Wadena County Soil and Water Conservation, and a University of Minnesota Homemakers Study Group. Both Dennis and Nancy belong to the Leader Forage Council Advisory, MN Cattlemen’s Association, and Nimrod Lutheran Church.
