John and Jeanne Bowron
Bowron’s farm in Luverne, MN did not always have bison. In fact, the farm operation began in the late 70’s with beef. The original operation was started by John’s father, Dallas. The farm had a swine farrow to finish project for fourteen years. Finally, in 1996, the beef cow herd was sold and the operation purchased its first 24 bison. The current operation consists of 120 bison. In addition to their own production, the farm purchases calves and yearlings from other producers. The Bowron’s feed 250 head for meat production. Agri-tourism is also a segment of the operation. John, Jeanne, and their children run the operation as well as John’s 95 year old father, Dallas. Jeanne organizes the tours, John and Jeanne’s daughters and their families help at large events, and at the age of 95, Dallas often drives the tour tractor out in the pasture.
In the community, John has served the area as a large animal veterinarian for 38 years and has just recently retired. Jeanne is a physical education teacher and teaches motor skills for special education in Luverne. She has organized Special Olympics for many years.
