John and Leila Arndt
John and Leila moved to the Willmar area in 1971 and purchased their farm in 1972. The farm began as a beef cow operation, but was later changed to a cow/ calf bison ranch. The current 200-acre farm operation is made up of 200 to 300 head of bison. They butcher about 125 animals a year. They also raise oats, corn, and soybeans. A unique part of the farm is that bison tours are offered from May through September. The family has people from all over the country coming to see the bison and their calves in their natural habitat located in the rolling hills on Solomon Lake north of Willmar. The farm also has a selection of different cuts of bison for sale.
John and Leila have 2 children and 4 grandchildren. The Arndt’s are involved with the MN Bison Association, National Bison Association, Sustainable Agriculture Program, Farm to School Program, Agri Business Committee, Willmar Chamber of Commerce, Pride of the Prairie, and Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center. The Arndt’s take pride in sharing their farm with schools and other youth groups.
