Don and Debra Thoeny
In 1984, Don and Debra Thoeny of Ogilvie, MN went into a partnership with Don’s parents William and Betty. Later, Kevin and Stacy Thoeny joined the farm. In 2006, the Thoeny operation expanded to 200 milking and dry cows. The milking herd is housed in a compost bedded pack barn, and are milked a double 8 parallel parlor. They raise their own replacement heifers and sell the bull calves. In addition to the cows, the Thoeny’s grow corn, soybeans, wheat, and alfalfa on 1,100 acres. Don, Debra, Kevin, Stacy, and Donny Jr. all work together to raise happy and healthy cows that produce healthy milk and milk products.
The family has decided to take a pro active approach to agricultural education. In the community, Don is currently Vice Chair for AMPI. Debra holds down the fort and helps with the grandchildren. Kevin is busy with farm business and is on the Isanti County DHIA board. Stacy is involved in many organizations including the Kanabec/ Isanti Farm Bureau, the county Farm Service Agency County Committee, 4-H, and American Farm Bureau’s PAL (Partners in Agricultural Leadership) Class 5. Together, the family has hosted “Breakfast on the Farm” for two years.
