Rodney and Sara Elmstrand
The Elmstrand family farm was purchased by Rod’s father and mother in 1934. Being a smaller farm, it was diversified with dairy, sheep, hay, corn, soybeans, and some fruits and vegetables for farmers market. Rod was the youngest of 6 children and got the yearning to establish Rod’s Berry Farm in 1981. Now, with his wife Sara and their five children Becky, Tricia, Mary, Erik, and Paul, they have continued and even expanded the business. Presently, the Elmstrand’s grow and market strawberries, blueberries, pumpkins, and nursery grown crops that are retailed in a satellite greenhouse in North Branch.
Rod recently retired from serving as Extension Educator and Extension Regional Director in East Central Minnesota. He thoroughly enjoyed the tremendous opportunities he had to serve both adults and youth in the community through U of M Extension programs. In the community the Elmstrand’s are active members with the MN Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association and the National Association of Strawberry Growers. They are also active in their church.
