The Lawrence Family
The Douglas Lawrence Family farm was established in 1957 when Douglas’s father, Ralph Lawrence, purchased a farm and three registered Hereford bred cows with calves in Coon Rapids, MN. This would be the beginning of what is known today as Lawrence Herefords, which is now in the 4th generation of raising and showing cattle. Besides the Herefords, the Lawrence family produces turf as a result of Doug admiring, studying, and planting his own sod. In 1967, Rocket Turf planted their first crop of Kentucky Bluegrass. The crop started as just 5 acres, but over the years it has developed into what is now 320 acres. Today Lawrences have 320 acres in turf production in Anoka County and 270 acres in livestock production near Princeton in Sherburne County. Doug, Joann and their sons and grandchildren: Bryan and Marytina (Montana, Wyatt, Wade, and Wynn) and Bradley and Brigitte (Dawson and Hutton) are all involved with the family operation.
The Lawrences are very involved within the community. A few organizations that they have been and are presently involved in include the MN Turf Association, the Anoka County Farm Bureau, the MN Hereford Breeders Association, American Hereford Association, National and MN Cattlemen’s Associations, Anoka County Fair Board, and the MN Petroleum Marketers Association.
