Rodney and Michelle are the 4th generation to operate the Krell farm, which has been in the family for 102 years. In 1999, Rodney and Michelle purchased the farm from Rodney’s father Robert. They milked 110 cows until 2004, when the dairy barn was lost to a fire. Currently they raise corn, soybeans, sweet corn, and peas. Their son Justin also has a cow/calf operation, which is an important part of the farm. Justin works at AgRelient and sells meat from his beef cow/ calf operation to direct customers. Daughter Jenna is a senior in high school and is also involved in the family farm.
Rodney is on the Blooming Prairie School Board, Education Foundation Board, and FFA Alumni. He is also in the Knights of Columbus, Lions, Steele County Agricultural Society, and is a Eucharistic Minister at church. He was the Steele County Soil and Water Conservation Farmer of the year in 1996. When Michelle is not at school acting as the Elementary principal, she is involved with Blooming Prairie FFA Alumni, Blooming Prairie Recreation Association, Southeast Minnesota Elementary Principal’s Association, Minnesota Elementary Principal’s Association State Board of Directors, and she lectors at church. Justin is involved in Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, Little International, Blooming Prairie FFA Alumni, Knights of Columbus, and acting as an auctioneer. Jenna is involved with FFA, volleyball, basketball, softball, National Honor Society, 4-H, FCCLA, and Student Council.
