Mark Obermeyer, a fourth generation farmer, started farming in 1971 after graduating from the U of M, St. Paul. Mark and Sharon were married in 1973 and Sharon became engaged in the beef, swine, and crop production, as did all of their three children. Currently, Mark and Sharon raise 1230 acres of corn and soybeans. They farm with their son Jerrod, who with his wife Heather and their children Tristian and Reanna reside nearby. Jerrod raises 730 acres of corn and soybeans and has a trucking business. Mark and Sharon’s son Phillip loves agricultural and with his wife, MacKenzie, live in Rochester. Phillip manages a farm chemical business at Plainview and uses his knowledge as a certified crop consultant to aid in decisions for the Obermeyer Farm. Mark and Sharon’s daughter Melissa works for 3M and lives with her husband Jeff and their daughter Kaitlyn in Menomonie, Wisconsin.
In the community, Mark has served on the Faribault County Pork Producers Board and the Kiester School Board. In 2009, Mark and Sharon were selected Outstanding Conservationists of Faribault County. Mark and Sharon are also members of St. Casimir’s Catholic Parish in Wells where Sharon is active in St. Anthony’s Circle and Mark sings in the choir.
