In 1983, they began planting apple trees and in 1993 planted the first commercial block of Honeycrisp in the country. Currently, the farm consists of 500 acres of corn, soybeans, wheat, canning peas and apple trees. The family also raises thoroughbred horses as racing prospects.
Off the farm, Cheryl is busy running an assisted living center that she started in 2002. Their daughters, Honore and Erin, also are involved in this enterprise. Rick has been involved in Pork Producers, the church council and is also the chair of the Lake City School Board. Rick and Cheryl have hosted exchange students from Norway and Japan through the 4-H International Exchange Program
