Steele County
Gary and Joan began farming with Gary’s parents in 1986 on their farm in Ellendale, Minnesota. The farm has grown in size and diversity since then and currently consists of 150 Holsteins raised for beef each year, 1500 head of hogs that are contracted, and 900 acres of corn and soybeans and some hay.  The Richards grow soybeans for Sunopta in Hope, Minnesota which are made into soymilk and edible beans.

Gary and Joan have three daughters-Katie, Whitney and Miranda, who have all been involved with various aspects of the farm. Gary is a member of the County Pork Producers, the Steele County Farm Bureau Board, is the Berlin Township Supervisor and an accomplished woodworker who did the trim work, along with another farmer, for their new church.  Joan is currently completing her Bachelors Degree in business at Concordia University and is on the school board, the county Extension committee and is the president of the Steele County Farm Bureau.
