Olen Dairy Farm After visiting an uncle and seeing a neighboring farm for sale, Walt and Joanna Olen moved from Chicago to Mora in 1970. Their neighbors took bets that the city farmers from Chicago would not last six months, but 38 years later, the Olen’s are still here. Walt and Joanne farmed the land until 1997 when their son Bill and his wife Julie took over the operation. When the Olen’s started farming, they had 25 milk cows and 16 young stock. Today Bill and Julie milk 70 cows and raise 74 growing herd. In addition, they have a 480 acre farm with 400 acres being tillable. Bill and Julie are involved with the Farm Bureau. They are also donors to the Mora Food Pantry. The entire family was involved in the county 4-H program. In past years, Joanne served on the Kanabec County Extension. | ||||||||||||||
