Arnold and Patti Schmidt Located 10 miles south of Grand Rapids is Arnold and Patti Schmidt’s farm. The farm began as a beef farm 50 years ago by Arnold’s father and now has been transformed into a unique mix of fresh fruits, vegetables, and specialty white tailed deer. Arnie and Patti are members of the Grand Rapids Farmers’ Market and regularly sell their fresh tomatoes, onions, beets, carrots, cucumbers, strawberries, and homemade jellies there. When Arnie and Patti are not tending to their vegetables, they raise 43 white tailed deer. Their bucks are raised and sold as trophy deer and some of their does are butchered each year for meat. Arnie is a board member of Itasca County Farm Service. Patti is involved in a number of charitable activities and contributes her time to an after-school tutoring program at the local YMCA. In addition, she teaches Special Education at the Grand Rapids High School and is a student at UMD in Special Education. | ||||||||||||||
