Dev-lin Holsteins; Devoine and Linda Kruse Family

The Kruse Farm was one of the first farms settled on Portland Prairie in the 1850s.  After being owned by both Linda’s grandfather and father, Devoine and Linda Kruse purchased the farm in 1977.  Currently, Kruse’s have about 120 cows in milk, 164 heifers, and dry cows.  Daughters, Amy and Jessica have received numerous awards for the Registered Holsteins in the 4-H dairy project.  In addition to the dairy, the Kruse’s own 180 acres and rent another 100.  They grow corn, alfalfa, and wheat.  As a separate entity, Devoine and his son-in-law, Brad rent another 240 acres as a cash crop operation.

The Kruse family is involved in the local Houston County American Dairy Association, the Houston County Holstein Club, MN Holstein Association, SE MN Youth Diary Show, and 4-H.   The family also enjoys hosting their daughter Amy’s preschool students out to spend the day on the farm.  They give the students the opportunity to help feed the calves, feed hay to the milk cows, sit in the tractor, watch the cows being milked, and if the weather is nice get a hay ride.
