2009 Farm Family FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q:        When and where is the statewide Farm Family Recognition Event?


A:   
      Thursday, August 6, at Farmfest.  The program will begin at 1:30 p.m.



Q:        Who are the sponsors of the 2009 Farm Family Recognition?


A:         The University of Minnesota Extension, The College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences, The College of Veterinary Medicine and the Minnesota Agricultural Experiment Station along with Farmfest.



Q:        Where is Farmfest located?

A:         Farmfest is located on Minnesota Highway 67 between the cities of Redwood Falls and Morton.  Directions and a map are available at http://www.farmshows.com/ffst/directions.po



Q:        What is the admission fee to attend Farmfest?

A:
         Two admission tickets will be provided to the Farm Families being honored compliments of Farmfest.  Additional adult tickets can be purchased at the gate for $8.00 each.  Eighteen and under are free.  Parking is free.



Q:        When should families arrive at Farmfest?

A:        
Farm Families should check in at the University of Minnesota tent between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.  An informal, come and go reception will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the U of M tent (location F2 on 6th Street) on Thursday, August 6.  Several University dignitaries will be at this reception.  The recognition event will begin at 1:30 p.m.   A map of the Farmfest grounds is included in the Show Book and can be found at the following link: http://www.farmshows.com/ffst/floorplan.po.



Q:        What should families expect at the recognition event?

A:
         The recognition event will begin at 1:30 p.m.  Farm Families will be recognized in county alphabetical order.  Tom Rothman, Minnesota Farm Network, will read a script describing each of the families.  As the script is read, the families will walk across the front of the Forum stage area where they will be presented a personalized plaque (one plaque per county).   Families will then proceed to a photo area where a photograph will be taken of the family and the University of Minnesota officials.  The musical group “The Great Pretenders” will entertain before, and at interludes during the Farm Family Program.



Q:        Can children and others participate?

A: 
        Of course, either in the presentation and photos or, in the audience.



Q:        Will photographs of the 2009 Farm Families be posted on the website?

A:   
      Photographs of families who attend the August 6 recognition ceremony at Farmfest will be posted to http://mnfarmfamilies.cfans.umn.edu/.



Q:        What should the families wear to the recognition event?

A: 
        Dress appropriate for the weather:  comfortable, casual clothing is suggested.



Q:        What other presence does the University of Minnesota have at Farmfest?

A: 
        The University of Minnesota tent display will be located adjacent to the Forum Tent.  The tent will feature exciting, interactive displays and information as well as leading educators and researchers.
